Sustainability is part of our core strategy

Our responsible investment approach

At Infranode, we invest in Nordic infrastructure that supports sustainable and efficient societies, today and in the future. Through partnerships with both public and private sectors, we help close the gap between investment needs and reputable capital.

Sustainability is embedded in every stage of our investment process, from early screening and due diligence to ongoing active ownership. Our focus is on enabling the green transition and accelerating the path toward Net Zero across the Nordic region, ensuring long-term value for communities, investors, and partners. Decarbonisation is central to our long-term vision, and we have committed to work towards Net Zero in 2040, or sooner, across our current and future portfolio. With robust governance and monitoring processes, we also ensure that our portfolio does not cause significant harm on other sustainability factors. Together with our decarbonisation agenda our efforts serve to de-risk our portfolio.

Our Net Zero 2040 commitment

As investors and co-owners of infrastructure assets working towards Net Zero 2040 is a joint effort. Our portfolio companies are experts on their operations and best positioned to develop their own Net Zero roadmaps. Our governance model ensures that decarbonisation remains a strategic priority where roadmaps are integrated into the on-going strategic agenda of each company. Keeping an action-oriented approach and prioritising feasible efforts and track action will help us focus on material progress toward Net Zero 2040,

Our work towards Net Zero 2040, combined with our established sustainability processes and broad team dedication, will create a resilient portfolio, delivering stable returns to our investors over our investment horizon and beyond.

We support our portfolio companies in developing their own roadmaps and provide expert guidance. The individual roadmaps will then be consolidated to form the basis for our overall Infranode Net Zero 2040 roadmap. We address greenhouse gas emissions across all scopes, seeking solutions for decarbonisation and implementing true emission reduction measures when available. Our progress will be disclosed annually.

Sustainability is part of our core strategy

ESG in the investment phase

We have developed our own in-house tool that makes sustainability a natural part of our overall analysis of a potential investment. Our starting point is simple: it is not possible to separate sustainability issues from the general financial analysis of risk and return. Before considering an investment, we screen the asset through an exclusion and restrictions list to determine viability. As part of the investment phase, we perform an ESG due diligence covering essential risks and opportunities within the areas of climate change, pollution, resource efficiency, governance and human and labour safeguards.

ESG under our ownership

As active owners, we support our portfolio companies in becoming fit for a carbon-neutral future. We integrate sustainability factors in our business plans and track progress for our portfolio annually. We have developed a systematic ESG approach establishing governance as a foundation. By ensuring tracible reporting of ESG metrics and monitoring performance and progressESG remains a priority in our on-going dialogue with portfolio companies. ESG is also part of our on-going risk assessment.

Working in partnership

We want to contribute to a movement in our industry where each investment decision is based on responsible and long-term fundamentals. Through partnerships and collaborations, we promote the transition to a carbon-neutral economy with our investments and our collaborative approach. We work closely with our portfolio companies, industry experts and follow international best practice for our sustainability work.

Active in several leading organizations working for sustainable investments

ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance)

Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) is an UN-supported community and the world's leading advocate for responsible investments. As an independent organisation, the PRI analyses how environmental and social factors – together with governance – impact investments, while supporting its international network of investors to implement these factors in their investment and ownership decisions. Infranode’s Director and Co-Lead Value-Add Transition, Johan Tiselius, is a member of the Infrastructure Advisory Committee. Infranode has been a signatory since 2017.

Swesif is an independent network forum for organisations working for, or with, sustainable investments in Sweden. The forum’s long-term goals are to increase knowledge of sustainable investments; to be a network and meeting place for knowledge and experience; to contribute to relevant statistics on sustainable investments in Sweden; and to contribute to the public debate on sustainability through active participation. Infranode has been a signatory since 2016.

GRESB is a global real estate sustainability benchmark for infrastructure assets and their fund managers. By applying rigorous methodology and consistent framework, GRESB evaluates sustainability governance of companies and funds in the segments of leadership, policies, reporting, risk management, stakeholder engagement, health and safety, customers and emission levels. Infranode uses GRESB to assess ESG governance standing of portfolio companies since good governance is a foundation for good ESG performance and risk minimisation. Infranode has been using GRESB to assess and benchmark the sustainability governance of our portfolio companies since 2020.

According to the Remuneration Policy, employees are entitled to fixed remuneration. In addition, some employees will be entitled to variable Remuneration. All variable Remuneration shall be determined on the basis of performance, which means both (i) the individual performance by the staff member and (ii) the Manager’s overall performance. The policy applies in relation to the Manager’s business as a whole.

Non-financial criteria include inter alia the adherence to the ESG policy with regard to the integration of sustainability risks and sustainability is integrated in performance indicators and targets, and subject to performance reviews of Infranode employees. For heads of departments, sustainability is part of their performance KPIs; for employees, ESG is part of their performance review.

In order to achieve a long-term perspective and stability in the Manager’s operations, the performance assessment that will form the basis for variable remuneration will be based on performance during a longer period (at least one year). This period constitutes the staff member’s accrual period.
