Infranode completes its first digital infrastructure investment in Finland by acquiring MPY Telecom

Nordic infrastructure investor Infranode has completed the 100% acquisition of MPY Telecom Oyj from the MPY Cooperative. A regional market leader, MPY Telecom is a long-standing owner and operator of core digital infrastructure. The company has a diversified customer and asset portfolio comprising more than a hundred telecom towers and extensive fibre networks in Eastern Finland. Infranode took ownership of MPY Telecom on 25 September 2023.

MPY Telecom represents the first digital infrastructure investment for Infranode in Finland. The acquisition will see Infranode continuing its successful journey in the Nordic fibre sector, as well as entering the telecom tower market for the first time.

“Fast and high-quality network connections play an increasingly important role in society. This investment aligns well with Infranode’s strategy of providing essential infrastructure and being a long-term partner for local and regional communities,” says Samuli Kivipelto, Project Lead and Investment Manager at Infranode.

The company’s telecom towers serve as the backbone infrastructure for regional mobile coverage. The fibre networks provide critical data connections for thousands of households, businesses and public entities, meeting the requirements of today’s digital society and ensuring readiness for the future.

“Alongside a strong track record in digital infrastructure investments, Infranode has extensive expertise to develop and support the company in a responsible and sustainable way for both current and future MPY Telecom customers,” says Kivipelto.

“MPY Telecom is carrying out one of the largest investment programs in its history. We are well positioned in the South Savo region, and Infranode’s ownership enables us to further strengthen and expand our telecom towers and fibre networks. We look forward to continuing our journey together with Infranode,” says Janne Korhonen, Chief Commercial Officer of MPY Telecom.

The acquisition will not affect the MPY Telecom brand or lead to changes in the company’s personnel, operations, customer service, or organisational structure.
